Mutual of Omaha Living Promise Rates by Age (2026)

In short

Mutual of Omaha's Living Promise final expense policy costs about $43.76 a month for a 60-year-old man and $32.87 for a woman buying $10,000 of level coverage as a non-tobacco user, and $74.61 for a man at 70. The figures below are the carrier's published rates with the $36 annual policy fee included and the monthly payment factor applied; the price you are issued depends on how you answer the health questions.

Living Promise is Mutual of Omaha's simplified-issue final expense policy and the one most agents reach for first, because it has the lowest level-benefit prices among the big carriers for most ages and the health questions are reasonable for people with ordinary conditions. It is whole life, so the premium is fixed for life and a small cash value builds, and the level version includes an accelerated death benefit that pays part of the face amount early for a terminal illness or a nursing home confinement.

Living Promise level benefit rates by age

Monthly premiums for the level-benefit policy, non-tobacco class, computed from the carrier's rate guide (annual rate per $1,000 plus the $36 policy fee, times the monthly factor). Coverage from $2,000 to $40,000 prices at the same rate per thousand.

85$192.74$135.90$287.51$202.25$477.04$334.95

The level benefit pays 100 percent of the face amount from the first day for any cause of death. Rates are locked at issue: a woman who buys $15,000 at 62 pays the 62-year-old price for the rest of her life.

The Nectar application prices final expense coverage in about two minutes: pick the amount, answer the health questions once, and it shows the monthly cost and which insurer and class you qualify for before you commit to anything.

Tobacco rates

Mutual of Omaha asks about tobacco or nicotine use in the last twelve months. The tobacco class costs about 40 percent more at every age; $10,000 of coverage looks like this:

AgeMan, non-tobaccoMan, tobaccoWoman, non-tobaccoWoman, tobacco
50$30.68$38.27$24.31$31.54
60$43.76$59.64$32.87$45.19
70$74.61$107.36$53.24$74.48

Living Promise graded benefit rates

If the health questions for the level benefit cannot be answered cleanly, the graded version is available from 45 to 80 for $2,000 to $20,000. For a natural death in the first two years it returns the premiums paid plus 10 percent; after two years, or for an accidental death at any time, it pays the full amount. It is not sold in Arkansas, Montana or North Carolina.

AgeMan, $10kWoman, $10kMan, $15kWoman, $15k
45$36.93$28.62$53.79$41.33
50$41.92$31.03$61.28$44.94
55$49.02$38.12$71.93$55.58
60$56.11$46.62$82.57$68.33

70$86.00$70.21$127.40$103.72
75$110.99$96.30$164.89$142.84
80$145.18$120.89$216.16$179.73

A 60-year-old man pays $56.11 a month for $10,000 graded against $43.76 level, so answering the level questions honestly and qualifying is worth about a third of the price.

Who gets the level benefit

The application is a set of yes/no health questions, no exam and no doctor's statement. In general, conditions that are treated and stable, such as controlled blood pressure, cholesterol, type 2 diabetes without insulin, or a heart attack more than two years ago, fit the level benefit. Recent cancer treatment, dialysis, oxygen use, Alzheimer's, or a heart attack or stroke within the last two years push an application to the graded version or to a guaranteed-acceptance policy. Our guide to final expense versus term life explains when a small whole life policy is the right tool and when a term policy does the job for less.

How it compares

At most ages Living Promise's level benefit is within a dollar or two of Transamerica's Immediate Solution preferred class, and about a third cheaper than the Guaranteed Whole Life policy that asks no health questions. The final expense cost by age page lines the three up at every age.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Mutual of Omaha Living Promise cost per month?

About $30.68 at 50, $43.76 at 60, $74.61 at 70 and $139.73 at 80 for $10,000 of level coverage, non-tobacco, for a man. Women pay about a quarter less. The table above has every age from 45 to 85.

Does Living Promise require a medical exam?

No. It is simplified issue: yes/no health questions on the application, checked against prescription history. There is no exam and no blood work.

What is the difference between level and graded Living Promise?

Level pays the full benefit from day one and costs less; it needs clean answers to the health questions. Graded pays premiums plus 10 percent for a natural death in the first two years, then the full amount, and accepts more health conditions.

Are these the current rates?

They are computed from Mutual of Omaha's Living Promise rate guide, which has matched the carrier's live quotes this year. Carriers reprice, and the issued premium depends on your health class, so treat the figures as the carrier's published price rather than a guarantee.

Can the premium go up later?

No. Living Promise is whole life: the premium is fixed at issue for life, and the policy cannot be cancelled by the insurer while premiums are paid.
